Carefully review the II. Nonverbal Listening Skills section of this chapter. Have a conversation with someone you know – a co-worker or friend – and purposely employ the listening skills outlined in this section. Be aware of your listening skills during this conversation; then implement new behaviors to be a more effective listener. Be aware of how the speaker responds to you.
Describe your experience in the discussion board. Consider the following questions:
• Describe the situation in which you changed your listening skills.
• Was it difficult to change the way you listen?
• How did the speaker respond to your changes?
• What permanent changes would you like to make in to become a better listener?
