HIST 140-Truth in Media

Jul 25, 2023

Now check out this link that has different perspectives on hot-topic issues: https://www.theperspective.com/

When you click on an issue, it will give you the two sides as well as the websites or news organizations they come from.  Pay attention to the names.  This will help with the next bit.

Now pick a current event.  Anything from the last five years. Then find me 3 articles:

    1. Accurate article that covers the topic. Explain how you know it is accurate and how you fact-checked it.
    2. An inaccurate article that covers the same topic but is designed to sound believable. Explain how you know it is inaccurate.
    3. An opinion piece about the topic. Explain how you knew it was an opinion.

Post below and make sure you read through other people’s examples and discuss.

    Solution

    Truth in Media

    1. The accurate article that covers the topic. Explain how you know it is accurate and how your fact-checked it.

I have selected the article, “Is the Push to Vaccinate Children Against Covid-19 Necessary?”, because this article has given an accurate idea based on the ideals that are oriented toward vaccinating children. Thus, this article mentions that vaccinating children against Covid-19 is one of the big aspects and the best interest of society. Apart from this, the final analysis that addresses the impact of Covid-19, states that it is true that children are more likely to harm the children while vaccinating the children in order to diminish their health from the virus attack. Thus, I would like to mention that this is one of the relevant and accurate articles in order to relieve the children to be affected by Covid-19 (Theperspective.com 2021, 24 November).

Another article that I have selected is “FDA Authorizes Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine for Emergency Use in Children 5 through 11 Years of Age” because U.S Food and Drug Administration is authorized based on the emergency to vaccinate adults as well as children from 5 to 11 years of age. Thus, what I liked about this article is mainly like, this has made a certain analysis based on the effectiveness and safety of the children. Thus, the effectiveness of this mainly responses to the immune system of the children so that they can get the vaccination. Thus, this article also relies on the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices, under the Centre for Disease Control and Preventions for further clinical recommendation. Therefore, doctors as well as caregivers, have mentioned that vaccines are safe for approximately 3100 children, with no such side effects, as per detection based on the ongoing studies (Fda.gov 2021, 29 October).

    2. An inaccurate article that covers the same topic but is designed to sound believable. Explain how you know it is inaccurate.

The article that I have selected, to be inaccurate based on the Covid-19 movement is “Is Closing Borders an Effective Strategy Against Covid-19?”, because, the effectiveness of Covid-19 actually took place overseas, but still then, the government, never announced closing the borders. Hence, later on with the increasing number of Covid cases, then the government took the decision to close borders connection in order to reduce the number of Covid cases. Thus, this article mentions that a study from Brazil has mentioned that they have permitted an unrestricted trip, by the beginning of the outbreak of this pandemic. In contrast with this, social media updated the news that people from America were still having a good time, with the outbreak of the pandemic. Thus, this pandemic hit Brazil badly and had a heinous impact. Thus, this article even mentioned the impact of the Omicron variant of Covid-19 (Theperspective.com 2021, 1 December). Thus, I would like to mention that in order to overcome the pandemic, closing the borders will have a huge economic impact on society, thus people are required to develop safety measures and shall adopt to get vaccinated so that they are not affected by the pandemic.

    3. An opinion piece about the topic. Explain how you knew it was an opinion.

Covid-19 is basically the H5N1 flu which has an impact on children as well as adults and elder adults too. Thus, as the elders are getting vaccinated, they have the capability to settle with their immune systems. Apart from this, reports and studies state that approximately 8300, Covid patients are children, who are so delicate with their health condition that they were taken care of under hospitalization. Thus, reports from October 17, stated that 691 deaths were reported under Covid disease, with U.S. individuals who are less than 18 years old. Apparently, news has mentioned that the 5 through 11 years of age group has been seen to face the death of 146 children.

Thus, in my opinion, I would like to mention that FDA shall take up the decision to build their confidence in order to provide vaccination to the people under age of 18 (Fda.gov 2021, 29 October). Thus, scientific research has mentioned that people below the age of 18 or more have a good immune system, but newborn babies as well as children of age 2 are also getting affected with the different variants. FDA shall develop the determination while introducing the Pfizer vaccination criteria based on an emergency authority. Therefore, children with an initial stage get vaccinated with polio vaccines, similarly, I wished that children shall receive vaccination in order to reduce the death rates.
