CHALLENGES FACED BY THE MEDICAL INDUSTRY TO TREAT ILL PATIENTS BY THE COMMENCING OF THE ROBOTS
Introduction
Since 1961, with the invention of the “industrial robotic arm” by George Devol, technologies have been advancing. Robotic signature senses, thoughts, and technologies are constantly being improved in the fields of medicine and healthcare industries. Today many hospitals are equipped with robots performing surgeries and there can also be seen in the market places. There have been very minimal advancements in the healthcare industry and medicine. Rehabilitation therapy, drug delivery, diagnoses to biological systems modeling, assistance to elderly and disabled patients, patient monitoring, minimally invasive surgery, and also image-guided surgery are the robots that are currently used in medicine.
Literature Review
Robots that are designed to assist humans to carry out specific tasks are called service robots. They are usually taken on board to take care of the patients and also to carry medical equipment to whichever ward is required. Other robots like “Da Vinci” help doctors while performing surgeries. “VI Rob Miniature” which is a smaller Medical Robot, is presented inside the body of the patient so that the drug can be injected right into the affected area for a cure. “RIVA” is yet another robot which is specialized in distributing endogenous compounds and drugs to patients.
According to certain “medical professionals and futurists”, Humanoid robots are likely to increase and will play an important role in taking care of patients. Some experts predict that robotic surgical equipment will become progressively intelligent. As technology gets advanced at making effective micro-robots, those could be external or internal. Robots could be employed to give more medical treatments to patients on battlefields as well as in disastrous areas as the government arrogates the services of the robots. Robotic technologies will be essential in the refinement of the “exoskeleton and prosthetic technologies”. Humans with increased capacities could be born as a result of the prosthetic substitution of limbs.
Research Questions
- Is the automation of robots safe for patients?
- Can robots help in the treatment of patients?
- Is there a threat to mankind that robots will be taking over Government jobs in the future?
Research Methodology
Healthcare has improved at large with the introduction of robotics. Research shows the percentage of the elderly population has been increasing. These are indications that people with disabilities and mobility issues are increasing, which may result in loneliness, chronic illnesses as well as social isolation. The expense and practical challenges of coping with these medical and societal problems are frequently significant and complicated.
Robots are indeed helping to develop healthcare in a variety of ways, including mobility aids, robotic surgery as well as robotic prosthetics, and much more. Many experts presume that healthcare robotics is nearing a major milestone. Robots are growing highly efficient, and the sensors and other application-specific costs are also decreasing. Moreover, essential new technologies are enabled by such advancements in artificial intelligence, object recognition, and internet services that have made significantly more progress. On the other hand, is a challenge: robots must interact directly with humans in a simple method so that they can be safer, more dependable, economical, and, most importantly, perform highly useful activities. The automation in the development of artificial intelligence has kind of been a shock. According to Kurzweil’s Singularity (2005), the evolution in technology is viewed as “apocalyptic and pragmatic perspectives”, changing the way of living by the year 2045, when humans and machines would work together for a better future. Articles spectate those jobs will be taken up by robots and the government will be paying them a “living wage”, says Elon Musk (Hirsch, 2017). A study by Lakshmi & Bahli (2020) states that robotics is playing a huge role in the healthcare industry and its continuous technological advancements are likely to treat patients faster and more efficiently. Therefore, Human-robot interaction (HRI) can be broken down into 4 application methods, such as supervisory control, remote control, automation, and human-robot interaction.
Conclusion
Robotics has been playing an important role in the field of healthcare. It can increase “diagnostic and therapeutic” skills by reducing any kind of medical errors, enhancing the overall quality of performance, and also being cost-effective in the healthcare services provided by them. The “advanced medical robots Program” was formed by the “Ministry of Science and Technology”. As a part of the ministry, its major objective is to strengthen the nation’s capability and performance economically as well as socially. The employment of robots in healthcare is an interesting possibility to provide aid for a significant number of people (Riek, 2017). Robots can help persons with intellectual, auditory, and physical disabilities, as well as the medical staff, carers, and the sick or disabled. The study of Stahl & Coeckelbergh, (2016) states that robotics ethics can be extremely useful in the healthcare industry. Therapy, caretaker, hospitality, and nursing are some of the professions carried out in hospitals. Rehabilitation is another therapy that makes utilization or employs robotic technology to aid patients in healing from the collision.
