Essay: Colonialism and Scriptural Authority and Theological Interpretation Assignment (Choose 1 of the 2 prompts below on which to comment.)
Colonialism
The Colonialist model ostensibly recognizes the value of psychology, but it does not typically result in deep engagement with the findings or methods of psychology. How might this be applied to a topic such as eating disorders or depression? What would be some of the advantages and disadvantages of this approach?
Scriptural Authority and Theological Interpretation
Entwistle distinguishes between scriptural authority and theological interpretation. Do you agree? Why might this distinction be important? Support your view with an example.
Essay: Colonialism and Scriptural Authority and Theological Interpretation
Scriptural Authority and Theological Interpretation:
Exploring the book I have learned that Entwistle, actually differentiates the scriptural authority, while this has been made with a theological interpretation. David Entwistle tells us about the Colonists who believe in psychology, to make use of the aspect based on psychology, under the fitness to cater a representation within a level of a parameter that also supports the belief system. Moreover, Entwistle assets the notion designated about theological imperialism which often occurs when a theological interpretation exceeds the psychological claim related to an interpretation to understand the thoughts to reconsider the interpretation. Overall, his claim mainly signifies the theological or psychological misinterpretation that can lead us to fall into the trap of an erroneous assumption, to understand the methodologies, and then lastly to reach the ultimate conclusion.
Colonialists often tend to develop their focus on the theological aspects or on the principles to provide an explanation to rely upon a situation. Proverbs 12:21 states, “No ill befalls the righteous, but the wicked are filled with trouble.” This verse acted like a claim over the sin, to understand the root cause for depression and other forms of the disorder. I think that based on the distinction, it is very important because Bible is considered to be an authoritative source, as it is considered to be true. As denoted by Entwistle (2015), the fallen human, who are prone to misinterpreting or bound to make crucial errors when we try to understand or interpret the scripture. Thus, it is mainly considered to be found on a distinctive note that has very few verses. Timothy 3:16-17 says, “All Scripture is breathed out by God and is profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work”. This is because the above verse mainly affirms an authority to find the truth through the words given by God. This, is, however, based on the verse with Peter 1:20 and Corinthians 2:14 reminds us about the fallen structure of man that requires to be interpreted.
Thus, the main problem in the world was human nature was prone to sin. Thus, through this, they do not mean about psychology, which cannot just help one to understand the significance, of people with a psychological disorder. Thus, colonialists choose to see what psychology is based on something to affirm with a filtered interpretation based on Christianity and Scripture. In our studies, we have been focusing on holding out the confusion as well as the fear of interpretation which is been interpreted wrong. Therefore, an interpreter can’t narrate the significance without the pinion of a person, or it can be viewed as being thrown out to mix (Entwistle, 2015).
Scripture, when it is related to the concept of human ideas and psychology, is actually related to the Spirits of God, so to find out the folly, or to have an estimated idea to understand the spiritual discerned. Therefore, Peter 1: 20 narrates about knowing God in terms of heart, but with no prophecy made by the Scriptures which eventually comes to human nature with the method of Interpretation as stated by Entwistle. Overall research can make a contradictory idea that Christians of an overall ratio have sought information that they are struggling with the concept which is related to the Christian beliefs and the psychological requirements (Tamfu, 2020).
Based on this concept this helps to identify the disciplines which are used by God, to make a utilization, while it is often filtered through the variation made to make an interpretation and causes a manipulative effort related to the best forms which are best fitted while supporting the claims. According to Jones, (2015), lack of understanding once is relied upon inaccurate conclusions to grasp the failure relevant to an entire situation based on the problems. Therefore, the disciples are regulated by the supporters of each other, as they play a significant role in supporting each other. It plays a vital role in supporting each other based on their sides, so that this does not create an opposing view based on a beneficial system or a policy to narrate about the understanding or can help other people.
As compared to the idea from the context, which mainly relied upon the notion, with a detailed development of the criteria related to the distinction, based on the significance of the Bible as an authoritative source of truth about the fallen human. Thus, it is suggested that humans are actually prone to misinterpretation, to making an error while they are trying to understand or make an interpretation based on the Script (Watts, 2005). Thus, this can be estimated to be a good attitude one can have, or it can be seen, to have a reason or a cause to miss out on so many other things related to God who has been allowing each one of us to learn and eventually helped us to develop the characteristics to understand the basic measures through the policy of psychology.
One example which always comes into my mind is considered to be failure of a distinguished scriptural authority and theological interpretation which can lead to errant thinking to narrate the prosperity made by the gospel. Thus, from the verse of Galatians 6:7 “Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap”. Thus, prosperity teaches as well as it ensures the congregations with a larger sum of money given to the church and the pastor. Thus, sowing well, shall reap out good, and bring eternal life, which has nothing to be compared with money.
