Week 2 Assignment: Part 1: Executive Summary
The healthcare issue or opportunity:
The opportunity is regarding the requirement of continuous and efficient monitoring of the weight of the patient who is at home but is getting treatment on a telehealth platform. Without leaving the comfort of their residence or some of the patients may also be unable to visit a doctor’s clinic due to their medical condition they can measure their weight along with the body mass index (BMI) and send it to the physician (Hayes et al. 2018, p.240). This issue requires technological solutions and healthcare budgets to be implemented.
Stakeholder group impacted by this issue:
This healthcare issue impacts mainly two stakeholder groups and is the patients who are suffering from obesity, overweight, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, heart disease, and renal failure and on the other hand the clinicians such as practitioners, nurses, and physicians. These two stakeholder groups are already connected by a remedial relationship on a telehealth platform that is already in existence. Consultancy, healthcare interventions, and directions are already remotely provided by telemedicine (Yeo et al. 2019, p.105). Although their BMI and weight have to be continuously monitored a way has to be provided in the telehealth platform.
The stakeholder groups that are most likely to help address the healthcare issue:
The stakeholder groups that are most likely to help address the healthcare issue consist of the companies that are currently transforming the healthcare system by coming up with novel healthcare technologies (Min, Jiang & Jain, 2019, p.2670). This will address the issue by providing the required technological tools such as a digital weighing scale to measure weight, calculate BMI, and send the information to the clinician through telehealth. Another stakeholder group is targeted patients who will help to address this healthcare issue by embracing these new innovations and using them effectively for the convenience and benefit of them and also their clinicians.
The proposed healthcare product to address this issue:
The product that is proposed to address the issue will be a smart weighing scale with a digital BMI calculator that is also Bluetooth enabled and measures the patient’s weight in kilograms. This can be done by providing application software that is fetched with the patient’s height in meters in the product (Mamrot & Hanć, 2019, p.60). It will relay the information to the patient’s smartphone via Bluetooth and then it will be sent to the clinician in the telehealth platform automatically. This device is proposed as it will be convenient for the patient who is not able to move from his residence due to his medical condition or does not want to leave their place. It will also be helpful for a pandemic situation such as Covid-19 as in such a situation people can’t leave their residence to visit a doctor’s clinic although it is a necessity and through this device, the regular monitoring of weight and BMI can be sent to the clinician in such situation.
