A common opinion in health care is that the highest-ranked officials in the healthcare system are too far removed from patient care to directly affect the patients of a hospital. Discuss your thoughts on this sentiment. Do you agree or disagree? How does the board of trustees determine the trajectory of a healthcare organization? Does the healthcare triad (governing body, CEO, and medical professionals) as a team have more or less influence on that trajectory? Explain your position.
Module 4 Discussion: Healthcare Organization
The opinion that the highest-ranked officials within the healthcare settings are far away from the direct healthcare management of the patient to the extent that they cease to affect the patient care directly is not a statement according to my opinion. The management of the healthcare setting needs to take into account various aspects of healthcare including the availability of pharmacy, in-house patient comfort, food security of the patients, and many other things. Moreover, the management has the burden of ensuring that the rules and regulations are being followed strictly and in compliance with the laws related to healthcare security (nih.gov, 2020). Therefore, it is obvious that getting involved in the direct care of the patient becomes a tough job for them.
The increased rules and regulations within the healthcare setting have made the healthcare settings more complex and therefore the job role of the board of trustees has become more challenging now. The whole management and the governance of the hospital are determined by the board of trustees. Moreover, the rules and regulations are laid down by the management board which even includes the boards of trustees in the core. The mission and the vision of the healthcare organizations are determined by the board of trustees and the strategies to attain the organizational goals are also finalized by the board. Furthermore, the board of trustees is not involved in the direct care of the patient but they work as the “Watchdog” of all the activities that are going on within the healthcare setting (boardeffect.com, 2018). The board is also responsible for selectin the professionals Especially the doctors, the therapists, and other healthcare professionals according to the needs and requirements of the hospital. It is also the role of the board of Trustees to verify the credentials of the professionals to make sure that the hired professionals have relevant training, knowledge licensing, and other proper documentation to ensure their credibility (nih.gov, 2020). To look after the financial health and the sustainability of the healthcare setting are also the tasks of the Board of Trustees. Therefore, it is obvious that the trajectory of the healthcare settings depends on the efficiency of the board of trustees.
The healthcare triad including the CEO, the governing body, and the professionals indeed influence the trajectory of the healthcare organization (boardeffect.com, 2018). The decisions taken by the board of trustees are implemented by the CEO and the tasks are performed by the professionals to reach the organizational goals. Therefore, in my opinion, the triad is fully responsible for the trajectory of the healthcare settings and does influence the success of the healthcare organization to a greater extent.
