MPM 663 – Week 6 Discussion: Quality Assurance Process

Sep 19, 2023

Week 6 Discussion Board

Situation — After the training, Larry and Lucy approach you to schedule you to work on the Project Quality Assurance section of the PQMP. You explain to them the first thing they need to do is determine the metrics they will use for the Perform Quality Assurance process. They seem grateful for your suggestion and ask whether it would be right for the other LSDS project managers to join the discussion. You agree with the other project managers but explain you need to first meet with your ASDG colleagues.

Assignment — Study the course materials for this assignment, then on the Discussion Board, discuss with your classmates what metrics would be appropriate to use for the Perform Quality Assurance process.

Week 6 Discussion: Quality Assurance Process

The quality assurance metric is the process that the software developer generally uses to increase the quality of the product by improving the testing. The quality assurance metric is used to understand and know the flaws in the project. The product is tested, which can help to detect the problem involved in the project. The various metrics that are needed for the project are listed below-

Cost of Quality: The cost of quality is one of the most critical and overlooked metrics to monitor. In the cost of quality metric, the actual cost of quality, the cost of poor quality, and the investment in good quality can be known here. The cost of the quality compromises various things, which helps to get the information on the cost of the various essential things required in the project. The cost of quality is equal to the cost of poor quality and good quality.

Defect: This is also one of the critical metrics. In this metric, the defective parts can be counted. While doing the project, there were various parts that became defective at the beginning. So defective parts also need to be calculated so that they can be known and subtracted from the project cost. The defective parts are counted to know which parts are not being used, and the correct information of the parts can be known which are working correctly.

Customer complaints and returns– Proper monitoring of the issue of the customer helps to resolve and prevent the problem that is taking place. Customer complaint occurs when the customer is unhappy with the product or not satisfied with the product they get (Hoffman et al. 2018, p.2). It is one of the essential metrics because the customer is the critical factor in the work and for whom the company is working. So, the proper monitor should be there related to the customer’s wants and needs. If the customer’s wants and needs are precise, it will help provide good customer service.

Scrap: The scraps are those parts or the products which are not the finished product. That product has no value and needs to be sold at scrap value, where some minimum amount will be recovered. The exact value is counted when the Scarpe product is received in the actual product. So, the Scarpe rate equals the total scrap divided by the entire production run.

Internal time efficiencies metric: The information related to time is provided in the internal time efficiency metrics. It means the total time mentioned is required to finish the goods (Saura, 2021, p.95). It consists of the Manufacturing Cycle Time, Changeover Time, Change order cycle time, and new product introduction. Here all the information related to it is mentioned. Here the time is calculated so it can be known what time is required to do the work.
