Situation — Not long after your team voted you to be the project manager, your Program Manager, Tom Terrifick. Scheduled a meeting with you to discuss getting started on the LSDS project quality management contract. You trust Tom a lot because he has consistently been an excellent source of guidance and encouragement. During your meeting with him, he explained to you how Maxwell Maximillian, the LSDS CIO, is an old friend of his from some time ‘ago when he and Max went through Bellevue University’s MBA in Project Management program. Max has become exceptionally well-connected in the industry and wields considerable influence when it comes to recommending consulting services like ASDG to other C-level corporate leaders. Tom conveyed to you his keen interest in this first contract with ASDG going extremely well. As you discussed the contract with Tom, he mentioned how Max had expressed concern about his project managers’ perspective on some aspects of project management like project quality management. They ‘seemed to view it as just another layer of bureaucracy and more paperwork minutia that gets filed in a drawer that no one looks at again after it is approved

Week 1 Discussion

Project quality management is a kind of procedure that considers how a project needs to proceed or be started in order to achieve the quality of the project when it is delivered to the client. Meanwhile, project quality management requires the managers of the organization to measure the activity and process quality that will be involved in the project. In this concept, the standards are being set as per the time for measuring the project deliverables and actions that need to be taken through the route of the project.

The ultimate goal of project quality management is to guarantee the deliverables of the project to satisfy the needs and expectations of the clients, customers, and stakeholders. There are major 3 components of project quality management which comprise quality preparation, quality guarantee, and quality organization (Taylor, 2022).

Furthermore, when talking about the origin of project quality management, its movements can be traced back to the medieval period in Europe when craftsmen started managing different unions in the late 13th century. The unions hold the responsibility of developing strict rules for product and service quality. It had been verified by the inspection committee to make sure it was up to the mark.

As a result the craftsmen often tend to place the second mark on the goods and products produced by them. The mark had been used in order to track the origin of the faulty item. However, with time, the mark started representing the goodwill and reputation of the craftsmen. These marks were proof of the quality of the products for the customers throughout the medieval period.

Hence, this approach was dominant until the Industrial Revolution in the 19th century (Grossnickle & MacDonald, 2018). The major purpose of project quality management is to check whether the products and goods provided by the supplier or manufacturer have achieved the minimum quality check or standard in order to satisfy the customers’ desires and needs.

It checks that the project should have been marked to meet the needs of the customers (Pheng, 2018). As per the Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge, it is the responsibility of the manufacturer to make sure that minimum quality standards are met to have a qualified project. There are various benefits of project quality management to both the organizations and projects that include increased productivity, improved products and services, employee commitment boost, customer satisfaction, better compliance, and so on.
