Week 7 Discussion Forum
The project manager must be able to handle unplanned scope changes. What would you do if you were managing a project in which the scope of work started to change in the middle of project execution?
In addition to your main response, you must also post substantive responses to at least two of your classmates or instructor’s posts in this thread.
Week 7 Discussion: Successful Project Manager
The successful project manager is a project manager who knows how to handle the changes that were unplanned or the changes that need to be done at the execution time. If I were managing a project in which the scope of work started to change in the middle of project execution, then certain things I would do are stated below-
Understand and communicate the need behind the changes– The first thing I will do is understand the changes that need to be done without getting panicked of last moment changes before the execution of the project. After understanding the changes, I will communicate the same with the team about the necessary things that need to be implemented and done.
Document the changes– The other important thing I will do is to document the changes that need to be made so that it can be easy to understand what essential changes are required. Documented the changes give an accurate description of the changes that can take place related to the costly, time-consuming, and other aspects that need to be considered before making the changes to the project.
Evaluated the changes and understand their impact– The other step I will take is to evaluate the changes that will be made and see that the impact will be generated because of the changes that will take place (Love et al. 2019, p.501). I will try to find out how the changes will impact the budget and scope of the business and the outcome of the changes that can take place.
Consider the implementation– The other steps I will take here is to consider the implementation and get approval for the changes that have been made. Detailed information will be sent for the approval of the necessary changes that need to be done so that we can confirm the changes that have been made.
Implement and communicate with the team: The communication will be done with the team related to the changes that have been done so that they can able to get to understand and know about the changes that have been done (Alami, Gagnon & Fortin, 2019, p.5).
Unplanned changes are a predictable part of modern-day business. Changes can be sudden and transformative or gradual and subtle, but they all add significant changes to your business over time.
