Week 5 Discussion Board
Weekly Discussion Question – (25 points)
Situation — After reviewing your initial Project Cost Management Plan Template, you learn from our Program Manager that the DIT COO was very pleased with the quality of your product, and was happy that progress is being made. The COO wants you to continue with your work on the template but also wants you to look into one of the problems he described to your Program Manager that has to do with the difficulty DIT project managers experience with resource allocation and scheduling. There are arguments among the project managers about whether resource allocation and resource scheduling are the same things when they do not know very much about either.
Assignment — On the Week 5 discussion board, after studying the course materials, discuss and share your learning with your classmates about what project managers need to know about resource allocation and resource scheduling to effectively manage project cost, and whether there should be a section in the template that addresses resource allocation and resource scheduling.
Week 5 Discussion: Project Cost Management
The resources are an important part of the organization. It can be said that resource allocation and resource scheduling are not the same things. Resources are the essential things in the organization and without which the organization cannot run or operate. So, there are several processes of the resources where the allocation and scheduling of the resources are been done. There is a minor difference between both of them and they are most likely the same but are not entirely the same. The difference between both of them is stated below-
Resource allocation– Resource scheduling selects the best resource from the matched physical resources. It identifies the physical resource where the Virtual machines are to be created to provide the resources from cloud infrastructure. In the case of, resource allocation all the resources are been allocated properly which is suited to where and which should be placed where and about how much amount. Here the distribution is done which resources needed the particular amount of the resources (Huynh Cong & Kerzel, 2021, p.1095). Here the best-matched resources are to be found and are been allocated where the required is there. The proper allocation of the resources is been done here.
Resource scheduling– Resource allocation allocates the selected resource to the job or task of the user’s request. Resource scheduling is the process that is done after the work is performed. Here it is different things from that resource allocation. In this case of resource allocation, it can be said that the best resources or the suited resources are been allocated to the place where they will fit in the organization as well. Resource allocation is one of the important things that are done by the organization so that the work can be performed properly. It can be said that though both the things look similar they are different from each other.
It can be said that both are important aspects of the organization. Though they seem to be similar both are different from each other. The work which both of them do is quite similar which is related to resource allocation but it can be said that both are different from each other and have differences in the work as well. Here one thing is related to the allocation and one is scheduling. Both are part of the resources but do different work (Jana et al. 2022, p.5). In the case of resource allocation, the proper resources are been allocated to the actual position so that the work can be performed properly without nay of difficulty. It can be said that both are different from each other. Both are similar yet different in the work. The resource allocation is the first process and after that, the resources scheduling is done which is the second process. Both are done so that the resources can be properly distributed to the people without any major effort in the work. If the proper allocation of the resources can be done then it will help you complete the work most effectively and properly without any major issues.
