What are the three primary characteristics of this change model, and what role does this model play in helping an organization’s management staff and employees understand and embrace change?
Week 6 Discussion: Lewin’s Force Field Analysis Model
The Lewin force fields model is been used to acknowledge the resistance to the change that has taken place in the organization. The model is one of the simple models which can be used to manage organizational change. Lewin’s Change Management Model is a simple, easy-to-understand framework for managing change. By recognizing these three distinct stages of change, you can plan to implement the change required. Lewin’s Change Management Model is a comprehensive change model aiming to understand why change occurs and what must be done to deliver change in the most seamless way possible. Lewin developed the change model as a way to illustrate how people react when facing changes in their lives
The model is a three-stage model. All the stages of the model are stated below-
Stage 1: Unfreezing– This is the first stage of the transition and one of the most important stages as well. In this stage, the determination is made that the changes need to be implemented in the organization as well. The changes are to be done and are to be conveyed to the employees that the changes are to be implemented in the organization (Ramos, Enteria & Norona, 2021, p.15). The employees have been kept aware related to the changes so that the organization can get support from the employees for the changes. It is one of the important steps because if this stage is useful then it can be said that half of the work has been already done.
Stage 2: Change– This is the second stage of the Lewin force fields model. In this stage, effective communication is implemented so that the people can able to adopt the new changes that have taken place in the organization and this can only be done with proper communication. It is the most important stage to avoid rumors because negative or positive rumors are spread about the organization in this stage. Here changes are taking place and new things are coming into the organization. This step is considered the crucial step of the organization where communication and adjustment are required.
Stage 3: Refreezing– This is the last stage of the Lewin force fields model. In this stage, stability is created in the organization which helps to gain confidence in the organization as well. In this stage, the reward, feedback, and support are provided to the employees to adopt the change. The training plays an important part in this stage as after the implementation of the new things the proper training is required so that all the work can be done properly. It is the stability period where the change has been implemented in the organization and the people are adopting the changes that have taken place in the organization (Yang et al. 2021, p.5). It is the last stage where the process of the change has been completed and the feedback is provided related to the changes which have taken place in the organization.
The role this model plays in helping an organization’s management staff and employees understand and embrace change is stated below-
Firstly- This model helps to understand what are the changes bad the strategies that need to be implemented in the organization. This model helps to eliminate the before the change process starts. An aligned benefit is that a model of change helps to create an effective communication strategy.
Secondly- The Kurt Lewin change model is effective and still used all these years later. This is because it’s based on sound behavioral psychology. It is designed to understand why people resist change and put the forces in place to drive people to change acceptance and support. One of the biggest reasons that Lewin’s Change Management model works is that it uses clear concepts and illustrations that make change management easy for many to understand
Thirdly the role played by the model is that this model helps the staff and the manager to apply the new strategies and try to bring the new ideas and the concept within the organization as well. The model helps to understand the latest new strategies and the new work that is to be applied. This model mainly helps to understand how to implement and adopt the new strategies in the organization.
It can be said this is the role which the role played by the model in the organization and the usefulness of the models to the organization’s management staff and employees.
