1. What is your first impression of Huck? Why?
In my opinion, after reading this lesson I, would like to tell about my first impression about Mark Twain’s Huckleberry Finn is likely to be a great influence because this has helped me to learn about the adventurous life of Huck and his slave friend Jim. I like this novel the most because this states about the life of the slaves and how they have to tolerate all the difficulties of their master. Apart from this, I really liked the idea of Huck escaping from his alcoholic father into the woods and having an adventurous life in the river. On the other hand, I really find it pleasing that being a small boy he does his own work, along with washing clothes on his own, and even gets into severe trouble and the best part is that his life, as he could escape into the world which is filled with life.
2. At the beginning of the novel, with whom is Huck living? In what ways do they try to change Huck? Do you think they succeed? Explain
Huck is living with Widow Douglas, and she does several things in order to change Huck. Therefore, she teaches Huck about Moses, as it was taught in the school, while he gave him new clothes as well as other things. Therefore, she was not that successful, because Huck never used to agree with what she did and did what was wanted by him.
3. Briefly describe Pap. What is his ultimate goal in harassing Huck?
Pap was an alcoholic person of the age of fifty, with long and greasy hair. His face was pale, and who have been wearing clothes that were torn along with a hat.
Pap’s ultimate goal was to harass Huck; the same way he was been in his childhood. Thus, he tried Huck to be prevented from school, while Huck’s mother never learned to read. Therefore, Huck did not even like this, and often disagreed with his father.
4. How does Huck escape from the cabin in Illinois? What does his ability to escape suggest about him?
This is one of the interesting parts of the novel. Thus this starts with Pap who left Huck in their house. Therefore, Huck continued to plot his plan while he cut a hole in the back of the cabin. Apart from this he even took food and weapons down to his canoe down the river.
After this, Huck killed a pig from the woods with a gun, and cut its throat in order to bleed the pig. After this, he took an old sack and filled it with a rock. On the other hand, he dragged the pig all the way from the river and dropped the pig on the ground. Later on, he broke the door of the cabin with an axe, and after that, he put blood on the axe, in order to show that he was been killed. Therefore, he threw all these into the corner of the cabin. Then later, on he took the cornmeal and started scattering it on the ground in the direction of a lake, and right after this, he made his way into the river. Therefore, this is what Huck, tried to show as if the home is being robbed and Huck was killed by them. Thus, he threw things in the direction of the lake because he wanted his father to keep their concentration from the river and stay concerned about the lake.
5. Where is Huck reunited with Jim? In what significant ways are Jim and Huck alike? In what significant ways are they different?
Huck and Jim reunited on Jackson’s island. As both Jima and Huck have escaped from their own place, where they were supposed to face abuse and negativity. Therefore, Huck escapes from the constricted world with his aunt the widow which forces him to as well as him to escape from the life of being a slave, in terms of Mark Twain it is the life of niggers. They both were adventurous and had the spirit and were even open to being friends despite any racial differences.
6. Why does Huck put a dead snake on Jim’s blanket? What harm comes to Jim as a result of the incident? In your opinion, is Huck sorry for the harm he caused? Explain.
Huck has been trying to play a trick on Jim while leaving him curled up as well as a dead rattlesnake under the blanket of Jim. Hence, Jim crawled into the bed which was bitten his ankle by the snake’s mate. Thus, Jim takes up the jug in order to avoid Pap’s whiskey and happens to drink it on his own, and gets on with his drunken stupor in order to avoid the feeling of pain in his swollen leg. Therefore, he takes Jim for a four days recovery from the bite, while Huck vows to not touch the snakeskin with his hands again.
7. How successful do you feel Mark Twain is in creating the character of Jim? Does Jim seem like a real person to you? Explain why or why not.
In my opinion, I think that Mark Twain, with his novel, Huckleberry Finn, has literally shown about being a successful creation while creating the character of Jim. This is because it seems like he does not seem to be like a real person. Therefore, it seems that he is a normal person, at a time, it is due to his trial and efforts to be free and his love for his family.
8. Huck takes to the river to find freedom and escape from people and situations that restrict his liberty. What are some ways that people today can find personal freedom? Is Huck’s way still possible? Explain your answer.
Huck has a different way to escape into the world. Thus there are certain possibilities to get far away from the difficulties in the modern age. Thus, it is mentioned today about the almost impossible things simply disappear. Therefore, here, this is clear that children just do not want to get shown in the town or how they feel. Therefore, families do think. In the case of Huck., he finds his way in the river as his life and to get freedom. Thus, today people are finding peace and freedom, by operating Facebook and Instagram. Generating memes and making reels and vlogs are the way of people these days. Thus, when I was older I used to spend my days reading books, and Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain was my favorite.
9. What dangers did enslaved people face in order to escape slavery?
The main reason behind slaves escaping the den because, they have to face severe hardships as well as punishment which are like amputation of the limbs, or even whippings, brandings, or even severe horrible acts. Thus, owners of the slaves, often gave severe punishment to them in such a wrong way that they wanted to escape and get freedom from the harsh life of slavery.
10. How does Huck disguise himself in Chapter X?
One of the most interesting parts shown by Mark Twain in his novel in chapter 10, is likely to show Huck’s disguise as a girl. As the chapter starts with Jim’s swollen legs which have got better after a span of a period. Huck decides to get a shore to get certain information, thus, in order to hide from his father, he disguises himself like a girl, which he did using one of the dresses lying in his houseboat.
