The incident in which I had to persuade someone was when my bank account was debited by payment of a huge amount that I did not do. It was a busy working day when I was looking after a serious matter. Two of my colleagues were also there with me. My phone beeped twice with the notification tone for message alerts. I ignored it that time and checked my phone during break time. I found an SMS from my bank stating my account had been debited by a huge amount of moment, that too through an ATM transaction. I was completely shocked because I was in my office when the money was debited. I realized it was a case of ATM cloning as the data of my card was stolen by some hackers using skimmers when I visited the ATM last time. Following the discussion with my family members and colleagues, I rushed to the concerned manager of the bank, of which I am the account holder him, and I furnished the evidence in support of the payment that I did not make.

1. In order to persuade, I used the strategy of presenting evidence to support my claim. The source of evidence was appropriate to claim that I have no knowledge of the transaction for which the amount was debited.

2. The evidence I provided was the SMS that came to my phone after the money was deducted and the transaction details received from the bank’s online banking site. The evidence in its sources was appropriate because they were directly from the bank’s own server, not from any third-party source.

3. While having a discussion with the bank manager, the pieces of evidence made me feel more confident as I found that the ATM address from which the money has been debited is in some other state, and I have no records of moving from my then location in the recent past days before the incident took place. The evidence further made me further confident as it included all the details, such as the date and time when the money was deducted. The time was around 1 p.m. on a Saturday. On this particular day, I had the proven record that I was at my workplace along with my two other colleagues and was busy resolving a serious problem.

4. After receiving the evidence, the bank manager sent them for verification to ensure whether they were genuine. The bank also found from its own server that a huge amount of money was deducted from an ATM, against which several other complaints have been registered. It took a lot of time, and I had to push the bank manager too many times to initiate the process of refunding the money that had been debited. However, I finally received the deducted money after two long months.
