Analyzing videos can be difficult, but the same questions historians ask when evaluating a written primary source can also be applied to videos. Students need to choose three video primary sources from the “YouTube Videos – The Unraveling” section located in Module 5.

Robert F. Kennedy Announcing The Death Of Martin Luther King, 1968
The video titled “Robert F Kennedy Announcing The Death of Martin Luther King” was primarily a speech that was delivered by Robert F Kennedy regarding the assassination of Martin Luther (Robert F Kennedy Announcing The Death Of Martin Luther King – A Great Speech). He announced the death of Robert F. Kennedy before the supporters of Martin Luther King in order to create a sense of calmness of comfort. However, the announcement was of great historical importance as it created a sense of anger among Black Americans and led to a period of nationwide mourning, which in turn paved the way for an equal housing bill. It deserves to be mentioned that the Equal Housing Bill was the ultimate legislative achievement of great significance in the era of Civil Rights.
Four killed in Kent State shooting, 1970
The video “titled” “Four killed in Kent Shooting” reports the killing of four people when the protest against the Vietnam War was going on. Four university students were killed when the Ohio National Guards randomly fired on a crowd of university students and other civilians during the Vietnam War (On this day: Four killed in Kent State shooting). The video was of utmost importance as the incident marked a watershed moment for a country separated by the conflict in Southeast Asia.
President Nixon Resigns: Watergate Scandal, 1974
The news clip titled “President Nixon Resigns: Watergate Scandal” talks about President Richard M. Nixon’s resignation over a televised address (President Nixon Resigns: Watergate Scandal | Archives | TODAY). President Nixon resigned in light of the Watergate scandal. After his complicity in the cover-up was revealed and his political support was eroded, President Nixon decided to resign. The Watergate scandal was of great historical significance, not only because President Nixon resigned, but it also resulted in the common people’s loss of faith in the government of the country.
