Work through the simulation titled Resource Allocation from the end of Chapter 8 of your course text. Review the various options in the simulation, then create a solution to the scenario to meet the requirements.
You will need to provide your accounting of each area you will be keeping with the total at the end at the beginning of your post before you provide your discussion. Here is a brief synopsis of the simulation regarding the hospital’s budget and dilemma:
- One 35-year-old cancer patient who needs significant time with the doctor, medical supplies, tests, and around the clock care. Cost: $135 million
- Emergency Room operations for daily care and treatment of about 100 people. Cost: $155 million
- Two senior patients who need hip replacement surgery. Cost: $50 million
- 10 patients (ranging in age from 18 to 45) receiving assistance in your inpatient drug/alcohol rehab unit. Cost: $100 million
- An MRI unit that is on the fritz and could die any day. Replacement cost: $170 million
- One of your two X-ray machines is inoperable and must be replaced. Cost: $40 million
- Ambulance drive-in area was damaged and needs to be repaired. Cost: $15 million
- Training needs for nursing staff for certification requirements. Cost: $35 million
- TOTAL: $700 million.
For this discussion, address the following:
- You have $700 million in expenses and only $500 million to work with. How do allocate your resources?
- Who gets treated, who should wait, and why?
- What about your facilities?
- Determine what you plan to do, and explain your reasoning as well as the ethical considerations behind your decision.
Your initial response must be 150 to 250 substantive words minus the accounting of your work.
Week 4 discussion
Allocating the budget as given by the hospital has to face severe difficulties, because, there are specific services to cut back to the price budget. Therefore, focusing on the budget can develop a staring in various medical departments with the inability while offering a special care to all the patients, so that they can get a better facility. Rationing on the services along with making an adjustment on the budget. Therefore, the scenario can be handled with ease, and shall not be taken lightly. Thus, as per my assumption, which is made based on the topic is accelerated with an annual expense which is $700 million, while allocating the budget of $500 million.
Relevant to the stimulation listed in an out textbook, I have made an allocation for my budget as follows:
- Emergency Room operations for daily care and treatment of about 100 people. Cost: $155 million
- One of your two X-ray machines is inoperable and must be replaced. Cost: $40 million
- An MRI unit that is on the fritz and could die any day. Replacement cost: $170 million
- Ambulance drive-in area was damaged and needs to be repaired. Cost: $15 million
- Training needs for nursing staff for certification requirements. Cost: $35 million
The total cost is $415 million
Thus, these allocated resources help the hospital to save the amount annually in order to give emergency facilities to the patients. Therefore, the investigation made on the further topic can be related to the case in order to give proper treatment to all the patients equally, and none shall have to stay in the queue. Therefore, as per my decision, the ten patients consuming drugs or alcohol are interventions about the effectiveness to develop their performance appropriately. Therefore, the hospital shall consider a success rate, based on the hospital that should invest most than ten patients and give them good services based on the community (Bustillos & Vellek 2019).
In this context, I would like to mention that a tough decision shall be made for the 35-year-old cancer patients in order to give proper treatment based on the qualified medical oncologist, and other service providers of the hospital. Thus, for this reason, at times, this can be seen that the budget can be cut down while caring for the patients so that the patients can receive proper care and treatment. On the other hand, the hospital is free to learn about the moral obligation which is taking place with the patient in order to give proper care to the patients.
The facilities which are given are based on giving emergency service to the patients when there is an emergency situation. Therefore, taking up the decision to keep the emergency room was based on doing only vital operations within the community. Thus, the hospital will look into the matter of how fast and accurately emergency patients are diagnosed and get proper treatments. In this context, just like the emergency room is required to be fully functional, and should always be ready to react to the hospital penalties while taking up certain preventive measures. Compared with this, the MRI unit should get a high priority, which allows the healthcare professionals to do the diagnosis and even treat the injuries that have taken place within the patients. As compared with this the X-ray machines shall follow the suit based on diagnosing the patient sooner, in order to avoid the invasion based on the patient through an incision. This is because, in the emergency department, if the X-ray unit is done well, then this can pose a prolonged risk for the patient (Insideradiology.com 2016). Apart from the hospital shall develop the surgery equipment ready, for all the emergency patients, because, patients in the emergency sector, often visit the unit with a prolonged life risk. Therefore, this ambulance is required to be developed and give faster service to all the patients and bring them down to the hospital.
Alternatively, it is one of the significant measures, in order to give proper training to the medical staff as well as the nursing staff, so that they can give proper treatment to the emergency patients, especially in the Oncological Department. Hence, the nurses should also follow the process that consumption of drugs or alcohol can be a relevant point to discover that the patients should get cancer. Thus, as the condition of the patient is deteriorating on a daily, basis, the nurses are reliable to give proper counseling and treatment while they are in need. Thus, the hospital also conducts inpatient drug or alcohol treatment facilities, so that they can overcome their present situation.
