M3 Assignment
For M3 Assignment, you will prepare a PowerPoint presentation that focuses on a different culture that you would like to learn to communicate with effectively. At a minimum, the presentation should include the following elements:
- Overview of the culture.
- Key characteristics and dimensions of the culture that should be learned before communication begins (include at least six dimensions).
- Compare and contrast the culture with your culture (based on the dimensions you included in #2).
- Create a culture communication plan specifically for your chosen culture that will help you and your workplace to conduct effective communication. This culture communication plan should include an outline or brief discussion of the three or four components you have found most critical.
- Provide a summary and recommendations for your organization to move forward with training for cultural communication.

Overview of culture
- The Indian culture can be considered the heritage of the social norms, ethical values, traditional customs, belief systems, and technologies that originated or are associated with the ethno-linguistically diverse Indian subcontinent
- Here religion plays an important part in many lives of the people. India is believed to be one of the countries in which various cultures people reside in the country. In India, traditions, painting writing, etc
Culture can be defined as the belief, art, law, or customs that pass down from generation to generation. The Indian culture can be considered as the heritage of the social norms, ethical values, traditional customs, belief systems, and technologies that originated or are associated with the ethno-linguistically diverse Indian subcontinent. Indian culture is considered to be the most religious and ethnically diverse in the world. Here religion plays an important part in many lives of the people. India is believed to be one of the countries in which various cultures people reside in the country. In India, traditions, painting writing, etc. are considered to be one of the heritage cultures from ancient times and people residing in India believed in the culture (Lifintsev & Wellbrock, 2019, p.95). India is also known for its unity in diversity across the world. India is a diverse nation where varieties of religions live together having their own different cultures.

Key characteristics and dimensions of the culture
- It should be integrated– It means that all cultures are somewhere interconnected with each other. The person should learn about all its parts not only a few parts.
- Individualism- collectivism– It is considered to be the degree to which the society mainly emphasizes individual accomplishment and self-interest.
- The behavior of people– The behavior of the people helps to understand the people who treat other people.
The key characteristic that should be learned before communication begins are stated below-
It should be based on symbol- The culture should be based on the symbol. The symbol helps to understand the culture of the other person. The symbol such as the sign that each culture has which represents their culture.
Culture should be dynamic– Culture can be considered dynamic because it represents beliefs, norms, or traditions.
It should be shared- Culture can be considered as shared because people interact with each other and come to know about each other’s culture.

The key dimension that should be learned before communication begins are stated below-
Power distance– Power distance can be considered as the degree to which society accepts or reject the unequal distribution of power in the organization.
Uncertainty avoidance– It means to avoid the uncertainty risk from the organization or the society which takes place like situation uncertainty or the changes which take place in the organization (Koponen, 2019, p.105).

Compare and contrast the culture
- In Indian culture the language which is used basically all over India is Hindi whereas in the British culture, English is the major speaking language.
- It is seen that Western societies are more individualist in nature and have weaker ties with families whereas in the Indian culture, people have stronger ties with their families and social group.
- One of the similarities which are seen in both Indian and British cultures is the English language. The English language is growing rapidly all over the world and India has the largest English-speaking population in the world.
Firstly the contrast which takes place between Indian and British culture is the language. In Indian culture, the language which is used basically all over India is Hindi whereas in the British culture, English is the major speaking language.
Secondly, Indian culture is more group-oriented than British culture (Heinrich, Yao & Xiao, 2020, p.5). It is seen that Western societies are more individualist in nature and have weaker ties with families whereas in the Indian culture, people have stronger ties with their families and social group.
Thirdly British culture is less conservative and is more relaxed. But in the Indian culture, it is seen that the people are more conservative as they mainly follow the traditional culture.
Fourthly in India, there are varieties of cultures are there and all the people follow their own culture. There are varieties of people residing with different cultures. In British, the maximum number of people are from British backgrounds and follow the same culture.
One of the similarities which are seen in both Indian and British cultures is the English language. The English language is growing rapidly all over the world and India has the largest English-speaking population in the world.

- Always eliminate one-way communication– In the culture communication plan, one should always take care that the communication should be a two-way process so that it will help the other party is understanding the communication and is responding it back (Maitland, Tietze & Heath, 2022, p.10).
- Use of symbols and signs for easy understanding– The symbol and the significance help to understand each other better and eliminate the difference which arises in the communication process. It helps to reduce the confusion and each party can understand each other well.
- Openness-Due to the difference in the culture both the part did not open problem about the problem and there are several chances that both the person do not agree on the same situation.
Culture communication plan
The culture communication plan is stated below-
Always eliminate one-way communication– In the culture communication plan, one should always take care that the communication should be a two-way process so that it will help the other party is understanding the communication and is responding it back (Maitland, Tietze & Heath, 2022, p.10). It helps to understand that the listener is understanding the communication.
Speak slowly so that the other person can understand– In cultural communication both parties should speak slowly so that the other person can understand each other well because due to the cultural difference both parties need to understand each other patiently.
Use of symbols and signs for easy understanding– The symbol and the significance help to understand each other better and eliminate the difference which arises in the communication process. It helps to reduce the confusion and each party can understand each other well.
Be patient– Both parties need to be patient in the communication process because both belong to different cultures so which communication if both the parties communicate patiently then it will help to understand each other better.
The component found most critical in cultural communication are stated below-
The channel of communication– The most critical part of communication is a channel of communication. Due to the medium sometimes communication becomes problematic as the people are not able to connect.
Understanding the language– In major problem which takes place in proper communication problem is the language. Due to the language issue, people are not able to connect properly.
Openness- Due to the difference in the culture both the part did not open problem about the problem and there are several chances that both the person do not agree on the same situation.

- Speak slowly– While the communication takes place the recommendation which can be provided is to speak slowly so that the other party can easily understand the message that you are trying to communicate (Ramasubramanian & Banjo, 2020, p.380).

Summary and recommendation
The recommendation which can be provided for cultural communication are stated below-

It helps both the party to communicate easily and understand each other well.
Active listening– In the cultural communication problem communication has to face several barriers and one of them is a cultural barrier. The listener should be active in listing the message that the other party wants to convey.
Keep it simple– The message should be kept simple so that it can be easily understandable to the other party and they can easily take the decision related to that. A simple message help to understand fast what the other person is trying to tell.
Take turns to talk– Communication can be successful if both parties take turn to talk with each other. If both the party communicate together then neither of them will be able to understand each other well.
