Background

NTUC FairPrice Co-Operative is the largest Singapore-based supermarket chain. The organisation is a cooperative of the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC). The chain has more than 120 outlets across the island serving 430,000 shoppers daily, comprising FairPrice supermarkets, FairPrice Finest and FairPrice Xtr. In 1999, NTUC introduced its convenience stores, FairPrice Xpress and Cheers with a network spanning over 160 convenience stores island wide and serves over 100,000 customers daily.

 

TASKS

FairPrice has conducted a survey to examine shoppers’ concern on service quality. Data was collected from FairPrice Xtr Serangoon as shown in Appendix 1. The face-to-face survey was undertaken by students from a local university who approached people as they were walking into the outlet. The total time taken for each survey is around 10 minutes. The shoppers were told the intention of the survey and they were free to not participate. In total 541 responses were obtained and coded.

 

Research objectives

You are to write a report for the Marketing Manager of Fairprice analysing all the survey data and covering all the service quality dimensions:

• Satisfaction levels for the following:

o Overall physical appearance

o Overall reliability of Fairprice employees

o Ability to respond to shoppers’ needs

o Trustworthiness of Fairprice employees

o Empathy of Fairprice employees

o Overall shoppers’ willing to pay

 

Your report should also include any significant differences by: age, gender, education level, income level, marital status and use of membership card. You are to evaluate the quality of the research study, discussing the data collected and drawing conclusions and making recommendations. Finally you are expected to provide recommendations to the management of Fair price for consideration.
